Colorado will be among 36 states to impose a ban on computer-assisted remote hunting.

So-called Internet hunting became a cause celèbre in 2004 when a Texas rancher set up a remote-control rifle that would allow a deer to be shot with the click of a mouse.

The practice, considered unethical by some hunters, gathered considerable negative press for hunting and prompted a strong backlash among state legislatures intent on eliminating it.

Elk on the plate.

The Mile High Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation will celebrate the organization’s Colorado successes at its 11th annual big-game banquet March 29 at the Plaza at the Mart, 58th Avenue at Interstate 25.

Flushing flows.

At the request of Wyoming Game and Fish, the Bureau of Land Management conducted a series of flushing flows on the North Platte River below Gray Reef Reservoir.

The work began Monday, and flows as high as 4,000 cubic feet per second were intended to clean fine sediment from spawning habitat and increase invertebrate production.

The schedule was to be repeated Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Flows have been stabilized to approximately 500 cfs for the remainder of the month; water conditions are expected to be agreeable for the rainbow trout spawning period.
