COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A woman killed by her estranged husband had told police that he had told her to get ready to “take a bullet” two days before.

Colleen Dwyer, 34, was shot and killed Wednesday by Russell Dwyer, 39, who committed suicide after the slaying, police said.

Police reports obtained by The Gazette Friday revealed the conversation Monday where Colleen Dwyer told police about the alleged threat and that her husband, an Iraq war veteran, had a gun. Colleen Dwyer was told to get a restraining order and referred to a Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team.

Colorado Springs police spokesman Lt. Skip Arms said because the threat was made over the phone, the highest possible charge would have been harassment, a misdemeanor.
