Xcel Energy has turned on its “bird cams,” which offer pictures of owls, eagles and other birds flying around five of the company’s power plants, including three in Colorado.
The cameras attracted 126,350 visitors to the company’s website last year.
The eagle cam at Xcel’s Fort St. Vrain power plant in Weld County also features streaming video. A small camera mounted on a tree limb about 6 feet above the eagle nest shows three eggs due to hatch in April.
Spokeswoman Ethnie Groves said the company operates the bird cams, which have minimal costs and are in operation from spring to early summer, to “help raise awareness of the animals and share them with the public.”
Xcel has run the program since 1997. Andy Vuong, The Denver Post
