Stay here if you’re: Looking for a romantic getaway, a pampering girlfriend retreat or an upscale business spot.
It’s close to: Town Square, which is mere blocks away; 20 minutes from the airport and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort; 90 minutes from Grand Targhee ski area.
The rooms are: Pure heaven. In the colder months, spring for the one with a fireplace and whirlpool bathtub, big enough for two and a few feet from the bed, so that you can leap from a soothing soak into a downy, fire-warmed bed with a good book. No detail is spared here, from a leather bookmark on the nightstand to a plush teddy bear next to your pillow, L’Occitane bath products, including lip balm, plenty of soft, fluffy towels and a butter-soft pashmina on the leather chair next to the bed in case it gets chilly.
They put all of the money into: Making this lodgepole pine beauty as inviting and luxurious as possible while retaining an unpretentious and charming appeal. The leather and wood furnishings, locally made and leaning toward the rustic, are gorgeous but still functional, and public areas such as the library and outside hot tub with a terrific view are designed to make it tough to do anything but relax. There’s Wi-Fi throughout the property, but why would you want to work?
The bottom line: This is simply one of the top hotels in the West — with a gracious and accommodating staff to match the resplendent surroundings. Be sure to have the complimentary made-to-order breakfast at the in-house restaurant Wild Sage; dishes such as herb-flecked vegetable omelettes and fruit-filled French toast will start the day off right, and there are pastries, fresh fruit, coffee and tea, and other goodies set out, as well. Wild Sage also is the place for dinner in Jackson whether you’re staying at the Rusty Parrot or not; chef Jeffrey Blackwell sends out contemporary visual treats that taste divine.
