Tuesday is the deadline for submitting applications for limited licenses to hunt during the 2008 Colorado big-game seasons. Colorado Division of Wildlife offices will issue applications until 5 p.m. and mail applications must bear that postmark date.
Hunters also may apply on the DOW website, , using Visa or MasterCard.
Shooting area closed.
Issues related to public safety and vandalism have caused officials of the Arapaho and Roosevelt national forests to close a popular recreational shooting area in Lefthand Canyon.
“This is a last resort,” district ranger Christine Walsh said. “If we don’t do something immediately, someone will get hurt.”
Walsh cited incidents of shots being fired across a heavily used off-highway vehicle road, along with repeated shootings of signs posted to enforce rules for the site.
The closure points up the continuing need for adequate shooting areas along Colorado’s Front Range, a matter being pursued by a task force comprised of various federal and state agencies and sportsmen’s groups.
