GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The baby girl of a slain Grand Junction woman has died after being removed from life support.
The infant was delivered by emergency Caesarean section Sunday after 23-year-old Anna Maria Macias was shot in the neck and killed. She was about 8 1/2 months pregnant.
The girl, named Maria, died shortly after relatives decided to remove her from life support Tuesday.
The Mesa County coroner’s office ruled the death a homicide. Chief Deputy Coroner Rob Kurtzman said Thursday that Maria died due to a decreased availability of oxygen.
Police allege 39-year-old Lonnie Herrera shot and killed Macias after she obtained a restraining order against him. Herrera is being held on $2 million bond on suspicion of first-degree murder.
