GILPIN COUNTY — Crews worked for hours overnight Wednesday on the premise that a body in a remote area might contain a bomb.
“We treated it that way,” said Gilpin County coroner Zane Laubhan, who was at the scene until 4:30 a.m. Thursday after the Chevrolet Blazer and body of Brian Frye were found near Central City by his friends. He was dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot.
Westminster police had been looking for the 30-year-old since Tuesday. Authorities had gone to his apartment, in the 9000 block of Vance Street in Westminster, after reports that he was threatening suicide.
Frye was gone, but he had left behind items used for making a bomb with a note saying he planned to kill himself.
