COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Project has chosen Aaron Anstett as its first poet laureate.

Anstett’s selection for the two-year term was announced Wednesday. He will receive a $2,000 stipend to make public appearances and pursue a poetry project.

Anstett holds a master of fine arts degree from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and was Halls Poetry Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His poems have been published in numerous journals and anthologies and in Garrison Keillor’s online Writer’s Almanac.

He works full-time as a technical writer.

The Poet Laureate Project is a coalition of Colorado Springs-area libraries, colleges and cultural groups and publications.
