Pope Benedict XVI has limited his coming trip to the United States to 13 public events, but the church announced Thursday he had added two brief meetings, both with Jewish leaders.
On April 17, he will meet in Washington with about 150 leaders representing a variety of faiths, then with about 50 Jewish attendees to offer greetings for Passover, which begins two days later, said a U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops spokeswoman.
His visit the next day to a New York synagogue will be the first time a pope has ever visited a synagogue in the U.S. and only the third visit by a pope to any synagogue.
