DENVER—The death of a 32-year-old Denver-area man at Vail was the 17th this year on Colorado’s ski resorts, setting a new record.
The Denver Post’s tally shows it’s been the deadliest year ever, surpassing the record set during the 2001-02 season. The man, whose name has not been released, died after a skiing “incident” on an intermediate run In The Wuides in Blue Sky Basin on Vail Mountain.
The ages of those killed range from 11 to 67 and includes beginners and experts.
Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson—whose office has investigated eight of those fatalities—says there doesn’t appear to be any trends. She says inexperience and unfamiliarity may have been a factor in some cases.
