Interstate 70 must have seemed like a movie set this afternoon.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office says a drunk semi driver ran cars off the highway and eluded police until they punctured his tires with a spike strip and took out a wheel.

The wild scene started between Rifle and Silt and wound more than 25 miles west on I-70, starting at about 3:45 p.m., according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

The semi eventually came to stop, minus a right front wheel, near DeBeque.

No one was injured, and the driver, 44-year-old Christopher Brostek of Deland, Fla., was booked into the Garfield County Detention Facility on preliminary charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving and felony vehicular eluding.

His female passenger, who was not was not identified, was taken to an alcohol detoxification facility, according to the sheriff’s office.
