Home had not been sweet for Yorvit Torrealba. Entering Wednesday night’s game, he was 1-for-14 in the Rockies’ first homestand of the season.
That all changed with one huge swing of his bat in the third inning. The catcher crushed a Chuck James pitch deep into the left-field bleachers for a three-run homer.
It was the first homer and the first runs batted in for Torrealba this season. Torrealba drove in his fourth run of the season with a single in the seventh inning.
Still going:
With a first-inning single, Todd Helton reached base for his 41st consecutive regular-season game, dating to Aug. 28, 2007. That’s the longest active streak in the majors and the longest stretch of Helton’s career.
Errors, Rockies:
Third baseman Garrett Atkins committed a throwing error and Ryan Spilborghs turned a single into a double in the fourth inning. Those two errors gave the Rockies six in nine games. Last season, en route to setting an all-time major-league fielding record, the Rockies didn’t commit their sixth error until game No. 16.
