A University of Colorado football player found passed-out and bloody in the hallway of a school housing complex has been charged with breaking into a truck outside the building.
University of Colorado police found Jake Duren, 21, a linebacker for the Buffaloes, with blood oozing from his knuckles and dirt all over his clothes in a hallway early Sunday after they were called to Smiley Court family housing, said Cmdr. Brad Wiesley of the CU police.
They followed a trail of blood to the parking lot and found a side window smashed out of a truck.
“There were rocks on the ground near the window. They may have been used to smash the window out,” Wiesley said.
“The officers believe somebody had been inside the vehicle, which is criminal trespass. The evidence inside the vehicle indicates somebody was inside the vehicle and rummaging around, and when they asked if he broke into the vehicle he said yes.”
Duren lives several blocks from the complex. After he was treated at Boulder Community Hospital for his cuts, he was booked at Boulder County jail.
He has been released on $1,800 bond.
Colorado coach Dan Hawkins said Duren was dismissed from the football team because of circumstances surrounding the arrest. He did not elaborate.
Duren earned All-Great West Conference freshman of the year honors when he played for the University of Northern Colorado in 2005.
He is a graduate of Mullen High School.
