Tim Russert of “Meet the Press” was in town Sunday night for the Denver Press Club Damon Runyon Award Dinnerand he wants the Democratic National Convention here to go long.
Mayor John Hickenlooper proclaimed it Tim Russert Day, saying, “You know, we don’t just do this for everyone.” Which we do, of course.
Russert, who spoke excitedly about the race for president, hopes we have more than 103 ballots — the record set at the 1924 Democratic National Convention in NYC.
And we just might. Check out the latest New York Magazine for a story titled “Four Days in Denver.” The mag hired “West Wing” writer/producer Lawrence O’Donnell Jr. to write a screenplay about what would happen in Denver if Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton arrive in Denver with “neither having sufficient delegates to gain the nomination.”
It begins with a 300-pound superdelegate getting a massage from a male prostitute. Welcome to town. Howard Dean tries to get Hillary or Barack to back down. Please. Superdelegates are chased all over the city, cornered in hotel rooms and hallways. How does it end up? Spoiler alert.

You can get fit at Pura Vida, J Madden’s swank new health club, which opens today in the former Tattered Cover slot in Cherry Creek. You can work out on top-of-the-line equipment with top-of-the-line people (dues are $150 a month with a $700 initiation fee).
You can spin, stretch, lift — and bike with a computer graphic screen that takes you places almost as pretty as Colorado.
But you can’t get a bottle of water. And you can’t bring your kids.
Free filtered water is available throughout the club — along with ice made from filtered water. The water that comes out in the bathrooms is unfiltered. So if you’re like me and like to drink a lot of shower water while bathing, Madden says, “You’re on your own.”
I toast Madden with a flute of filtered water for this decision.

CBS4’s new anchor Karen Leigh met a bunch of bold names Friday night at Elway’s — a party arranged by Wendy Aiello, wife of CBS4’s GM Walt DeHaven. Leigh’s debut is Monday, on a new set and in HD.
Meanwhile, Kathy Sabine returned to 9News on Monday afternoon, heralded as “Matthew’s Mom,” a hat-tip to her son, born in January. And she brought some very nice weather with her.
