A 20-year-old woman has been charged with drunken driving after a passenger who was crawling out of an SUV she was driving fell onto Highway 6 in Keystone and died.

Kendra Martinez of Broomfield has also been charged with illegal possession of alcohol by an underage person in connection to the 8:55 p.m. accident Sunday on Highway 6 and Saints John Road, according to Trooper Ryan Sullivan of the Colorado State Patrol.

Michael Armstrong, 21, of Bonner Springs, Ks., was taken by helicopter to Saint Anthony’s Central Hospital in Denver, where he was pronounced dead.

Martinez was driving a white Ford Explorer west on Highway 6 when Armstrong tried to climb out of the front passenger window, Sullivan said.

But he lost his grip to the SUV, fell onto the highway and slid onto the right shoulder of the road, he said.
