A house fire in Arvada early this morning burned so hot it melted the siding on a home next door, but there were no injuries.

The fire started at about 1 a.m. in the 11400 block of W. 76th Drive, said Scott Pribble, an Arvada Fire Protection District spokesman.

The fire was started by a discarded cigarette that was left in a dry flower bed on the porch, Pribble said in a press release.

The first firefighters to arrive found heavy smoke and fire on a second floor deck of the two-story, single-family home, Pribble said.

The fire was under control in about 35 minutes and the family and pets escaped without injury.

The roof and second story of the home was severely damaged, Pribble said. The vinyl siding on a home to the west suffered heat damage from the burning home.

Five fire trucks and 20 firefighters fought the blaze.

The estimated damage to the home is about $150,000.
