MONTROSE, Colo.—Montrose County authorities have identified the 2-year-old boy who died after falling into a septic tank at his family’s home.

Sheriff Rick Dunlap says Steven F. Flores-Avilla was discovered missing at about 7 p.m. Sunday. He apparently wandered away from several adults who were riding four-wheelers and horses.

Family members and neighbors looked for him for about an hour, and a neighbor reported Steven missing around 8 p.m.

The boy was discovered unresponsive in water. Searchers and sheriff’s deputies performed CPR on the boy, who was transported to a hospital.

He died a short time later.

Montrose County Coroner Dr. Thomas Canfield says the boy’s death was consistent with drowning, but an autopsy would be performed to determine an official cause.
