Spring is headed into hiding across much of Colorado, as snow moves across the mountains and onto the Front Range Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service Office in Boulder.
High winds and summer-like temperatures fed wildfires in parts of the state today, but a cold front is expected to drop temperatures as much as 40 degrees Wednesday.
Light snow showers will continue in the mountains through the day Wednesday, as the front delivers rain and snow to the plains by afternoon, according to forecasters. Snow on the Front Range will get heavier as the afternoon goes on, dumping more than four inches in areas south of Denver to the Palmer Divide, according to the Weather Service.
Denver and Boulder also could see some snow accumulations by evening, according to the forecast, with a chance of light snowfall lingering in the metro region until Thursday morning.
“This storm bears watching,” the National Weather said in its forecast, advising travelers to check the most recent forecasts before heading out.
High temperatures in the metro region are expected in the low 40s Wednesday, with lows in the 20s.
Weather will begin to warm on Thursday, reach the lower 50s, before temperatures in the 60s return on Friday, reaching the mid-70s again for Saturday and Sunday, according to the forecast.
