Six people were treated and released from hospitals after an RTD bus was rear-ended on Hampden Avenue east of Tamarac Square this morning.
The driver of a pickup truck was cited for careless driving after hitting the bus then swerving into another lane and hitting a PT Cruiser at about 7:30 a.m., said Scott Reed, RTD spokesman.
The pickup driver’s name was not released today.
The drivers of all three vehicles were among those hurt, but none sustained serious injuries, said Lt. Phil Champagne of the Denver Fire Department.
“It was primarily a precautionary measure to have them checked out,” Champagne said.
The bus was stopped near South Willow Street and passengers were boarding when the pickup hit the rear of the bus, Reed said.
“It appears the bus driver was properly stopped and doing everything that he should have,” he said. “The pickup plowed into the back of the bus.”
The bus was disabled from the crash because the impact occurred at its rear, where the engine is housed, he said.
Several ambulances responded and rushed the injured to hospitals, Champagne said.
