GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—Authorities say two people died in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon.

The Colorado State Patrol says a semi tractor-trailer rig overturned Tuesday on an elevated stretch of I-70 and spilled its load of 38-foot steel pipes onto three vehicles traveling below.

Trooper Gilbert Mares says the driver of one vehicle and a 21-year-old passenger riding in a Tacoma truck were killed. Their identities are being withheld until next of kin is notified.

The driver of the Tacoma—29-year-old Jonathan Middlebrooks of Vancouver, Wash.—was taken to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs with moderate injuries.

Mares said the driver of the overturned truck is 55-year-old Kenneth Muchiri of Houston, who also was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
