Getting your player ready...

John Elway should mentor Hollywood popwrecks and boozy hoopsters on how to behave.

Check out the scene from Monday night, when Elway and girlfriend Paige Green left the Ivy in Los Angeles. has the chaos posted, a postmodern version of “The Drive,” proving that you don’t have to be Paris Hilton to get the paparazzi’s pants all twisted.

Hypes : “Cameras caught the NFL legend after dinner at the Ivy last night, sounding more like a Hall of Fame car salesman than a Hall of Fame quarterback.

“The Bronco legend also announced that he and Brett Favre are coming out of retirement next season. He was probably joking. Raider fans aren’t laughing.”
shows Elway and Green working their way through the cameras and climbing into the back seat of a limo, laughing good-naturedly with the paps. One fotog yelled out that he wanted a free Prius.

No hands blocking the camera. No hysteria. No driving. Just some laughs.

Memo to Carmelo: Take a limo.

Going once.

If there’s a trend this year at charity galas, it’s the auction items. Seems as the economy turns downward, auction items are going sky high.

Take the upcoming Graland Country Day School bid-off — with 40-yard- line, field-level season tix to the Broncos; dinner and golf for 12 at Cherry Hills; a private jet to a golf trip; and tix to the “American Idol” finale.

And here comes the auction at the May 17 Cherish the Children Gala. Chairwoman Jamie Angelich says they have lined up Cher tickets, Bette Midler tickets and a personalized- signed David Beckham jersey. Oh, and a new Bentley.

Single.

Two of the four remaining dames on “The Bachelor: London Calling” are from Colorado. In next Monday night’s episode, Brit bachelor Matt Grant visits the hometowns of Loveland’s Noelle Drake and Durango’s Chelsea Wanstrath.
