CADIZ, Ky.—Police have arrested a former Colorado man wanted for deserting the Army nearly nine years ago.

Cadiz police arrested 32-year-old Jason Miskell Tuesday at a traffic stop after an officer found he was listed as a military deserter.

Police Chief Hollis Alexander told The Paducah Sun that Miskell and his wife moved to Kentucky after he deserted in 1999. He was being held in the Christian County Jail.

According to military records, Miskell was a specialist serving in the infantry at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs, Colo. After enlisting in 1994, he charged with being absent without leave on Aug. 3, 1999.

Maj. Nathan Banks, an Army spokesman at the Pentagon, says many military deserters are often picked up on traffic violations.
