Eric Paddock, the Colorado Historical Society’s longtime curator of photography and film, is switching jobs and moving across the street.
The Denver Art Museum announced today that he has been appointed curator of the institution’s newly created photography and media arts department. He will begin his new duties in mid-summer.
Longterm funding for the new position and department has been pledged by longtime photography supporters Evan Anderman, John Grant, Robert Lewis and Anthony Mayer.
Paddock was the historical society’s first photography curator, serving in the position for 25 years. During his tenure, he increased the collection from 300,000 images to more than 800,000 and created several highly regarded exhibitions.
The art museum’s holdings of 7,000 photographs were formerly housed in the modern and contemporary department.
“Major changes over the last 18 months have allowed the Denver Art Museum to look at the collections differently and bring focus to new areas. We are thrilled to have Eric on board and look forward to his vision and insight,” said Lewis Sharp, the art museum’s director.
