A female teacher at Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch has been placed on administrative leave after the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department opened an criminal investigation.
The allegation involves alleged inappropriate conduct between the teacher, who has not been identified, and a student, said Cocha Heyden, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.
“Obviously if they are getting us involved, it has something to do with criminal (allegations),” Heyden said today.
No charges have been filed, she said. The teacher’s name was not released.
Heyden declined to characterize the allegations any further.
“We have quite a few people to talk to,” she said.
A parent on Friday notified school officials about the allegations.
The district called the sheriff’s office and placed the “staff member” on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a criminal investigation, said Larry Borland, executive director of safety and transportation.
The staff member was hired in the fall of 2006, Borland said.
The district yesterday sent a letter to parents of students telling them about the action. A substitute is filling in for the staff member, Borland said.
