DENVER—The volunteer security guard who shot and wounded a church gunman in Colorado Springs last December is being honored at the state Capitol.
Jeanne Assam wounded Matthew Murray after he killed two people at New Life Church. Murray then fatally shot himself. Earlier that day, Murray had killed two people at a missionary training center in Arvada.
Assam is expected to be in the state Senate on Thursday when members vote on a resolution praising her bravery. The resolution says she protected the lives of hundreds of other adults and children at the church.
