BOULDER—Boulder County sheriff’s officials say an inmate who was accused of driving away in a stolen ambulance tried to kill himself in his jail cell.

Authorities say a deputy sheriff doing routine cell checks Friday found 35-year-old Mickey Terry had tied a sheet to his top bunk and around his neck to try to hang himself.

Sheriff’s officials say deputies and jail medical staff who performed CPR were able to establish a heartbeat. Authorities say Terry was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Terry was arrested Tuesday in Longmont after the stolen ambulance crashed. Police say Terry had been released from a hospital in Lafayette when he apparently jumped into an ambulance whose crew was busy taking another patient inside.
