TOP OF THE CROP
E Matt Ryan, 6-feet-5, 228 pounds, Boston College
Highly intelligent with strong leadership traits. Accurate on short to intermediate routes, but doesn’t have strongest arm.
Brian Brohm, 6-3, 230, Louisville
Had he come out as a junior, he might have been considered ahead of Brady Quinn. Brohm didn’t help his stock in his senior season.
Joe Flacco, 6-7, 236, Delaware
Getting some comparisons to Jay Cutler because Flacco has the strongest arm of this QB class and comes from an undistinguished program.
Chad Henne, 6-3, 230, Michigan
Most technically sound QB, and no one in this class played in more pressurized games. But his decision-making is a concern.
Andre Woodson, 6-4, 229, Kentucky
Impressive physical specimen with plenty of arm strength, but Woodson is easy to sack because of a slow delivery and lack of feel in the pocket.
OVERRATED
John David Booty, 6-3, 218, USC
Never lived up to expectations despite top-shelf supporting cast.
SLEEPER
Colt Brennan, 6-3, 207, Hawaii
He has become so overrated, he’s underrated. One of the most prolific passers in college history, the former Colorado walk-on is accurate and mobile. Hip surgery will hurt his draft stock, but he could be a sixth-round steal.
BRONCOS’ NEEDS
Not at this position. With a young, franchise-type quarterback in Cutler and a veteran backup in Patrick Ramsey, the Broncos are set. There are three positions the Broncos most likely won’t bother addressing in the first four rounds: QB, tight end and defensive end.
TEAMS WITH NEEDS
Falcons
Michael Vick is throwing errant passes at Leavenworth. They could use their No. 3 overall pick on Ryan.
Ravens
If the Falcons and Chiefs let Ryan fall, the Ravens might take him at No. 8. Otherwise, they will probably take Brohm, Henne or Flacco early in the second round.
Dolphins
Josh McCown can fill in for a year, but John Beck, a 26-year-old rookie last season, does not appear to be the future.
Bears
It’s way past time for Chicago to upgrade on Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton.
Chiefs
How much faith do the Chiefs have in Brodie Croyle? For Ryan’s pro day workout, the Chiefs sent not only their QB coach, but their general manager, head coach and offensive coordinator as well.
Area prospects
D Caleb Hanie, 6-2, 221, CSU, free agent
Dominic Breazeale, 6-6, 262, UNC, FA
