BOULDER, Colo.—Boulder police say a 69-year-old man drowned after the boat he was in with his son capsized during gusty wind conditions.
Lafayette resident Jose Lucero was pronounced dead at Boulder Community hospital. Police say his son managed to pull him out of the water after their boat capsized in the Boulder Reservoir late Sunday morning.
Lucero’s son, Randy Lucero, was also taken to the hospital but his injuries are not life-threatening. Police say Lucero’s son is in his 40s.
Police say the pair had life vests but were not wearing them. This is the first fatality at the reservoir since 2005, when a swimmer competing in a triathlon suffered a heart attack.
