“The Rough Guide to Europe on a Budget” ($24.99, Rough Guides) is tough to gauge. On the one hand, what’s not to like about a book that seemingly promises to deliver the inside scoop on the top sights, cheap eats and the best nightlife in 32 countries? On the other hand, even in 1,261 onion-skin-thin pages, with the information including key phrases, things to see and do, basics on getting around and a handful of dining and lodging suggestions, it’s not hard to imagine that this guide covers just a teeny, tiny bit of each locale. And even then, dining and lodging can be obsolete so quickly, especially the smaller, less expensive joints. For the lucky traveler about to embark on a world tour soon or if you are going to visit multiple countries on one trip and want only one book and already know your way around pretty well, this might come in handy. Otherwise, the more thorough, individual Rough Guides make more sense.
