An early morning car crash left one teenager dead and another seriously injured in Adams County.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, Kevin Dawson, 18, of Aurora was driving north on Federal Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he lost control at 67th Avenue. The Honda struck a traffic pole with enough force to tear the car in two.
The front section of the vehicle also struck another pole about 60 feet away from the initial impact.
Dawson was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene by the Adams County coroner. His passenger, 18-year-old Matthew Sailas of Denver, was transported to St. Anthony Central Hospital with serious injuries.
Sailas was wearing a seat belt; Dawson was not.
The crash is still under investigation, but CSP believes alcohol or drugs contributed to the event. The crash closed Federal Boulevard for about 3 1/2 hours.
