Peter Forsberg, making his series debut, was given a double-minor for high-sticking midway through the second period. Detroit was leading 3-2 when Forsberg’s errant stick struck Mikael Samuelsson in the face. The Red Wings converted on the power play during the second minor, making it 4-2 with 7:36 left in the second period.
