Three people were taken to local hospitals with burns Monday afternoon after their Lakewood home was consumed by fire.

Six people were home when the fire broke out about 3:30 p.m. at 1635 Ingalls St., said Michelle French, a spokeswoman for West Metro Fire Rescue.

Three were taken to the hospital with light burns, but no one was seriously injured, she said. Preliminary reports are that some family members had been burned as they tried to rescue their dog, which also survived the blaze, she said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.Thirty firefighters arrived at the home, which was engulfed in flames and smoke fed by winds, French said.

The American Red Cross was helping the family relocate, according to a statement from the Mile High chapter.
