GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A Western Slope mother has acknowledged stealing money from a Fruita grade school’s parent-teacher organization.

A Mesa County judge has ordered 32-year-old Heather Nelson to serve two years in community corrections, and another eight years on probation.

She’s also been ordered to pay $915 restitution.

Nelson pleaded guilty to theft of more than $500 from the Rim Rock Elementary School PTO, plus two other cases of fraud and theft.

Authorities say Nelson used a debit card to make purchases for herself in November 2007.
