The injury bug that haunted the Avalanche throughout the regular season has bitten again, as valuable forward Ryan Smyth will miss Game 3 of Colorado’s second-round series against the Detroit Red Wings at the Pepsi Center tonight.

Smyth suffered a foot injury in Game 2 of the series at Detroit when he blocked a puck on Saturday.

While Smyth will sit, coach Joel Quenneville said veteran winger Peter Forsberg and defenseman Scott Hannan are likely to play tonight. Forsberg did not participate in the morning skate, but skated well at practice on Monday and said he felt good.

The loss of Smyth, who signed a rich free-agent contract before the season, will hurt. The Avs also are without winger Wojtek Wolski who was injured early in Game 1 of the series.

Forsberg has sat out both games with what the team has called a groin injury. Hannan missed Game 2 with what the team called a lower-body ailment.
