GREELEY, Colo.—Charges have been dropped against a 45-year-old woman who was facing trial in the March 2007 death of her 7-year-old niece.
Genevieve Barea was charged with child abuse resulting in death after LoReyna Barea died of dehydration and blunt force trauma.
The family had said LoReyna was hurt in a crash on her bike and that she had been sick.
Genevieve Barea and Dan Partch had been the child’s guardians, and a jury acquitted the 47-year-old Partch last month on the same charge.
Weld County prosecutors filed a motion Tuesday to dismiss the case against Genevieve Barea, saying there wasn’t a likelihood of conviction.
