Colorado’s high school track and field meet May 16-17 figures to be noticeably slower.

Jeremy Rankin, a speedy junior at Class 5A Overland in Aurora, told The Denver Post on Tuesday that he has “decided to shut it down for the high school season.”

The nationally ranked Rankin said he has a foot injury that won’t go away and will have an MRI today. He said he injured the foot this season, then had problems again last weekend.

Rankin set an all-class mark in the 100 meters and attained the best effort in the nation for schoolboys, 10.32 seconds, at the 2007 Colorado championships in Lakewood. In January, in the third of three consecutive open indoor college meets, Rankin turned in a time of 6.64 seconds in the 60, again the best effort by a high-schooler.
