EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is excerpted from people writer Bill Husted’s May 6 column. To read it in its entirety,

I’ve been on stage twice in Denver. Once as a supernumerary in Opera Colorado’s “Die Fledermaus.” I think I flubbed the line announcing the arrival of someone.

And I played a “John” at the Barth Hotel in John Ashton’s legendary 1991 production of “The Hot L Baltimore.” The play, about a rundown hotel and its off-the-wall residents, was presented in the lobby of the Barth Hotel, the LoDo residence hall that’s part of Denver Senior Options. People wandered in and out of the lobby as the play went on – it was great – and I was one of many Denverites who had a one-night walk-on role.

Before I could utter my line, actor Pam Clifton had me pushed through a doorway.

But give up show business? Never! I’m down to do a walk-on in the upcoming revival of “Hot L,” again at the Barth Hotel, July 18 through Aug. 23.

Ashton can’t produce this time, but he’ll do a walk-on. And so will Ed Sardella. And Susan Kiely. And a lot of other Denver bold names. Stay tuned – and stay at the Hot L!

The Barth Hotel is located at 1514 17th St. in Denver. For information, call 303-534-7142.
