A 23-year-old Michigan man climbing west of Eldora suffered broken legs, a broken arm and facial lacerations after he tumbled down a steep rockface Wednesday afternoon.

Derek Anderson fell between 80 and 100 feet, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Joseph Harbison, 25, of Westminster, was climbing with Anderson at the time. He hiked 40 minutes to summon help.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Nederland Fire Department, Rocky Mountain Rescue, the Nederland Police Department and Pride Paramedic Services all responded to assist with a nearly four-hour rescue.

Anderson was taken to Nederland High School, and then transported by helicopter to St. Anthony’s Central Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
