COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A fire official says a grass fire east of Colorado Springs near Schriever Air Force Base has burned at least 9,000 acres and scorched 10 structures.

Falcon Fire Protection District spokesman Danny Miller says no injuries have been reported. He says the fire began just after noon Saturday about a mile south of Highway 94 on N. Ellicott Highway and has spread west toward Colorado Springs and south toward Pueblo.

He says 15 agencies are battling the wind-driven blaze which is zero percent contained.

Miller says houses near Schriever Air Force Base are under a mandatory evacuation order but he didn’t know how many houses are threatened.
