A lawyer assessing the estate of a 96-year-old Boulder County woman who died last week found a case containing what appears to be dynamite on her property.
Sheriff’s deputies, members of the county’s bomb team and firefighters are investigating the discovery at the home of Francie Clark about six miles northwest of Boulder.
Richard Lopez, a local attorney, found the box containing 50 pounds of dynamite in a shed on the property at 7736 Lefthand Canyon Drive.
Clark, who had lived in the house since 1949, had told Lopez that she had the explosives on the property before she died.
Lopez told sheriff’s deputies that there was a mine shaft on the property, but he didn’t know if it had ever been actively worked.
Dupont manufactured the dynamite in October 1950, according to the wooden crate in which it was found.
“If the contents are in fact dynamite, (the bomb squad) will make a determination as to how best to dispose of it safely,” according to a sheriff’s office release.
Deputies have notified neighbors of the discovery, but have not conducted evacuations.
