DENVER—Colorado Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave says she’s ready to lead the fight to defend the federal farm bill if fellow Republican President Bush vetoes it.

The House passed the bill 318-106 Wednesday. The Senate was expected to vote on it Thursday.

Bush has threatened to veto the bill because of subsidies to farmers. But Musgrave says the measure includes reforms and additional funds for nutrition and food stamps amid rising food costs.

Musgrave says the overwhelming vote for the bill might make Bush reconsider rejecting it.

Democratic Sen. Ken Salazar says he believes more than 80 senators will vote for the bill, which could make it veto-proof.
