It was a fight to the finish.
Sure enough, a bench-clearing brawl in a junior college baseball game Tuesday night ended two teams’ seasons. The brawl took place in an NJCAA Region V Tournament elimination game in Lubbock, Texas.
Weatherford (Texas) College led 3-2 in the sixth inning against New Mexico Junior College when a skirmish at second base set off a clash of thrown punches and tangled players as the benches emptied. When it was over, the umpires threw the best body punch of all, ejecting every player and declaring a double forfeit. Both teams were counted out of the tournament . . . and the season.
“The fight came at a huge expense,” New Mexico JC coach Cory Hall told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. No one appeared seriously hurt.
