WILMINGTON, Del. — Sharper Image Corp., the bankrupt home-gadget seller that previously planned to close half of its stores, won court permission to sell all of its assets at a May 28 auction.

U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Kevin Gross approved the auction Wednesday at a hearing. Gross also authorized the company to pay a 2 percent breakup fee if a rival buys assets sought by a joint venture that includes liquidator Hilco Merchant Resources LLC and Gordon Brothers Merchant Partners.
