GRAND JUNCTION — A western Colorado woman who died while trying to help a truck driver has been awarded a posthumous diploma from Mesa State College.
Christina Sterling-Soffel, 28, had stopped to assist a stranded trucker who had jackknifed his rig on Interstate 70 in Mesa County.
She was hit and killed while crossing the interstate on foot in January.
She had earned two bachelor’s degrees, in business management and business marketing.
In addition, she earned an associate’s degree in biology.
Her sister Jennifer accepted the diploma at Mesa State’s commencement Saturday.
Her father, Mike Sterling, and husband, Mike Soffel, also attended.
