A 41-year-old Arvada man has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for possession of child pornography.
Edward Erekson, who is free on bail, was ordered to report to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility after one has been designated.
U.S. District Court Judge Wiley Daniel handed down the sentence last week, according to a news release sent today. In July, Erekson was indicted by a federal grand jury. He pleaded guilty in February.
The plea agreement states that on Nov. 3, 2006, Erekson downloaded child pornography on the Internet. A court-ordered search as part of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigation determined that Erekson possessed more than 600 child-porn images.
“Each of the children included in the 600 images seized from Edward Erekson is a helpless and innocent victim,” said Jeffrey Copp, ICE special agent in charge in Denver.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a national program launched in 2005 by the U.S. Department of Justice to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.
