Aurora Public Schools has received a $50,000 grant from the Piton Foundation to implement the district’s new Pilot Schools program, which will give schools more say and flexibility in exchange for academic improvement.
Pilot Schools have much more control over budget, instruction, schedules and calendars, and staffing, but they are still part of the district.
William Smith High School will be the first APS Pilot School and will open this August. William Smith will add a focus on expeditionary learning that includes internships, language immersion, fieldwork, travel, and community partnerships.
