The Nets have expressed interest to Denver about trading for Carmelo Anthony, a source said, though it currently seems unlikely the Nuggets would deal their all-star forward to New Jersey.

The Nets’ new general manager is Kiki Vandeweghe, who was the Nuggets’ GM when Denver drafted Anthony third overall in 2003.

Vandeweghe has always been enamored with the budding talent of Anthony, who turns 24 on May 29 and started the All-Star Game in February.

But it appears unlikely Denver will move Anthony, notably for what New Jersey would give in return. According to the New York Post, the trade would include the Nets dealing Richard Jefferson, young guard Marcus Williams and the No. 10 pick in the June draft to Denver, in exchange for Anthony and center Marcus Camby, who finished second in the voting for defensive player of the year.

As for Camby, slated to make $8 million next season, he expects his name to pop up amid trade rumors all summer, considering the Nuggets, ousted again in the first round, could make a move this offseason.

Camby’s agent, Rick Kaplan, hasn’t been contacted by Denver or New Jersey in regard to this possible trade, though Kaplan said, “Marcus would like to stay in Denver and play out his career in Denver.”

Karl’s surgery successful.

Coach George Karl had his left hip replaced Tuesday at Rose Medical Center, the Nuggets announced.
