While the weather has heated up, the Rockies’ offense has not. Manager Clint Hurdle is trying a new catalyst at the top of the lineup tonight. He is inserting Scott Podsednik in the leadoff spot. Podsednik replaces Willie Taveras, whose struggles continued in last night’s 4-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Taveras has been unable to reach base consistently in part because of his lack of bunt base hits.
“He is still bunting frequently, he’s just not having the same success,” said manager Clint Hurdle. “I think people take it for granted how well he bunted last year.”
Brade Hawpe returns to right field tonight as he tries to break out of his season-long slump. The Rockies are looking to tie their season-high four-game winning streak as they face the Giants’ Tim Lincecum.
A look at tonight’s lineup:
CF — Podsednik
SS — Barmes
LF — Holliday
1B — Helton
3B — Atkins
RF — Hawpe
C — Torrealba
2B — Quintanilla
RHP — Cook
