Getting your player ready...

Since taking over as the Rockies’ closer from Manuel Corpas on April 24, Brian Fuentes had been a perfect 6-for-6 in save opportunities. That changed in the ninth inning Wednesday at Coors Field when he gave up two runs on three hits against the Giants.

“It seems like when we do one thing right, maybe we don’t do something else to get us going,” said Fuentes, who is 6-for-9 in overall save chances. “Tonight I dropped the ball. Ubaldo (Jimenez) pitched a heck of a game, kept us at 2-0, and I faltered towards the end. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. That’s just the way it goes.”

As a club, the Rockies are 11-for-20 in save chances.

Buchholz perfect.

Before Fuentes’ misadventures in the ninth, Taylor Buchholz struck out two Giants in a perfect eighth. Buchholz has not allowed a hit in five consecutive outings, a span of 5 2/3 innings. Opponents are hitting only .141 against him (12-for-85).

Streaks halted.

The two longest hitting streaks in the majors ended Wednesday. The Giants’ Randy Winn went 0-for-4, halting his streak at 15 games. Colorado’s Clint Barmes saw his 13-game streak end when he went 0-for-5. During his streak, Barmes hit .469 with four doubles, one triple, three homers and eight RBIs.

Leading off.

Slumping leadoff man Willy Taveras finally got in gear. He went 2-for-5 with a double and scored a run, bumping his average up to .233.
