We’re starting to get more buzz on big names coming to Denver for the Democratic National Convention.
Christina Aguilera is skedded to perform for a smallish crowd at the Rock the Vote party Aug. 25 — maybe at one of Regas Christou’s South Broadway clubs.
When Aguilera’s in Denver, she usually plays the Pepsi Center. This should give you some idea of what’s in store. The biggest rumor out there: Oprah will take over Bar Standard every night for big private parties.
That’s news to Bar Standard boss Christou — who says Oprah Winfrey would be more likely to take over The Church. But he does confirm that his hippest properties (which include Bar Standard, The Church, Vinyl and the place called 2 a.m.) are reserved for the four nights of the convention, Aug. 25-28.
And look for supporters of One Campaign (one.org) to be in Denver, most notably Tom Hanks and Bono. There’s also big talk about George Clooney and Steven Spielberg trying to find party spots.
Re-Create 68 Alliance will be camped in Lincoln Park. I hear they’re thisclose to having Rage Against the Machine play during the confab. Sean Penn’s bus, the Dirty Hands Caravan, is being courted to come to town with its New Orleans volunteers. Word is Penn’s very interested in being here.
Stay tuned, campers.
Twins.
The Physically Handicapped Actors and Musical Artists League presents “Side Show” June 5 through 29 at the Stage Theatre at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Based on the true story of conjoined twins performing vaudeville during the Depression, it’s an amazing fit for the troupe.
“There is perhaps no other theatrical work better suited to the unique strengths of PHAMALy than ‘Side Show,’ ” says director Steve Wilson. When the group presented this show in 1999, Broadway bigs came to Denver to see it.
And PHAMALy is looking for volunteers to help with the production. Call 303-427-4663.
Marriage claims another.
Fox 31’s “Good Day Colorado” anchor Peggy Bunker marries investment banker C.J. Hummel on Saturday in Santa Barbara — then to Mexico for a honeymoon.
